Paul Carmouche is not Pro-Guns Friday, Nov 14 2008

As promised, I did some research to find out how Paul Carmouche felt about our Second Amendment right to bear arms. As I mentioned in my previous post, Paul Carmouche’s web page had very little information on how he felt about this issue, but I did come across an interesting quote by Mr. Carmouche:

“We may go a little too far in order to protect the right to have weapons in our possession and don’t appear to be too concerned about the fact that too many youngsters aren’t possessing hunting guns, (but instead) they’re possessing assault type weapons and serious handguns,” said Paul Carmouche, Caddo Parish district attorney.”

Does Paul Carmouche think we’ve gone “too far” in protecting gun rights? Granted, it’s safe to say that most children should not be walking around with AK-47’s, but is that the responsibility of our government or our parents? We constantly hear the liberals in Washington talk about how they are going to protect us from ourselves, but we don’t need elected officials dictating to us how we should live our lives. We need elected officials who will provide an environment that enables us to build safe, prosperous lives for ourselves and our families.

That’s what the 4th District deserves and that’s what we’ll get by electing John Fleming.

Our Congressional Candidates and the Right to Bear Arms Thursday, Nov 13 2008

It’s a pretty safe bet that most of us in Louisiana are strong supporters of the Second Amendment. Not only do we have some of the best hunting in the country, we also take pride in our ability to protect ourselves and our families.

I wanted to take a closer look at where the Congressional candidates stood on Second Amendment issues. John Fleming had a good amount of information on his web page. He said the Second Amendment “simply recognizes our God-given right to self-defense.” At a time when the crime rate in Shreveport has skyrocketed (under the watch of Paul Carmouche), this right is particularly important. Dr. Fleming is also a member of the National Rifle Association and Gun Owners of America.

Paul Carmouche’s web page wasn’t nearly as convincing. In fact, the only thing the web page said was, “100% pro gun.” An entire web page with only 3 words about the Second Amendment? That’s interesting. I’ll have to look around a bit more to find out where Mr. Carmouche stands on the issue.

Stay tuned!
