In case you folks haven’t seen all the ads on TV, we still have a Congressional race here in the 4th District, and it’s heating up. I know we’re all pretty tired of political campaigns, but let’s not hang up our hats quite yet. The beauty of living in a free country is that we have a voice in our political system, and it’s our civic duty to exercise that voice. After all, it was Ronald Reagan who said, “We didn’t pass it [freedom] to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.”
Y’all stay tuned to learn more about this terribly important race between Dr. John Fleming and Paul Carmouche.

Nancy Pelosi will do all she can to add some new faces to her team in Congress. I guess this is why Mrs. Pelosi and her Political Action Committee (PAC) sent Paul Carmouche $14,000 for his Congressional campaign.
It’s a safe bet that Pelosi wouldn’t spend that kind of cash unless she knew Paul Carmouche would help her carry out her agenda. But, then again, the liberal leadership in Washington does have a tendency to waste money. In fact, just this past weekend Nancy Pelosi said this in regards to the $25 billion taxpayer funded bailout of the auto industry:
“Recognizing the severe challenges facing the domestic automobile industry, whose failure could jeopardize millions of jobs here at home and have a devastating impact on our economy, the House Democratic bill will provide immediate, targeted assistance to allow the car makers, together with affected unions, time to develop a plan to assure the long-term viability of the industry.”
I have another plan. How about these companies produce reliable products, Americans take note of this, and then we head to the dealership to purchase a vehicle. Isn’t that the way a market-based economy is supposed to work? Not according to the PAULosi Gang…

Folks have offered a number of different proposals on how to simplify our tax code. One thing is for sure, it is absolutely critical that this happens. There’s no quicker way to kill an economy than taking money from families and businesses in ambiguous ways. According to the Tax Foundation, Americans spent $244.3 billion just complying with the Federal income tax in 2007, and that number is only expected to get worse – unless we send people like John Fleming to Washington.
John Fleming has identified and studied a particular proposal – the Fair Tax – that would simplify our tax code, save families billions of dollars, and increase government revenue. What does Paul Carmouche say about tax reform? He says he’ll “look for opportunities” to make the tax system fairer. Come on! The opportunities are already there. You just have to act! Maybe tax reform isn’t that important to Mr. Carmouche.
We don’t need any more politicians who will simply ”look for opportunities” to solve some of our nation’s biggest problems. Washington needs leaders who are ready to take action, who are prepared to make tough decisions the day they are elected to office.
I’d advise Paul Carmouche to do his homework.

As promised, I did some research to find out how Paul Carmouche felt about our Second Amendment right to bear arms. As I mentioned in my previous post, Paul Carmouche’s web page had very little information on how he felt about this issue, but I did come across an interesting quote by Mr. Carmouche:
“We may go a little too far in order to protect the right to have weapons in our possession and don’t appear to be too concerned about the fact that too many youngsters aren’t possessing hunting guns, (but instead) they’re possessing assault type weapons and serious handguns,” said Paul Carmouche, Caddo Parish district attorney.”
Does Paul Carmouche think we’ve gone “too far” in protecting gun rights? Granted, it’s safe to say that most children should not be walking around with AK-47’s, but is that the responsibility of our government or our parents? We constantly hear the liberals in Washington talk about how they are going to protect us from ourselves, but we don’t need elected officials dictating to us how we should live our lives. We need elected officials who will provide an environment that enables us to build safe, prosperous lives for ourselves and our families.
That’s what the 4th District deserves and that’s what we’ll get by electing John Fleming.

It’s a pretty safe bet that most of us in Louisiana are strong supporters of the Second Amendment. Not only do we have some of the best hunting in the country, we also take pride in our ability to protect ourselves and our families.
I wanted to take a closer look at where the Congressional candidates stood on Second Amendment issues. John Fleming had a good amount of information on his web page. He said the Second Amendment “simply recognizes our God-given right to self-defense.” At a time when the crime rate in Shreveport has skyrocketed (under the watch of Paul Carmouche), this right is particularly important. Dr. Fleming is also a member of the National Rifle Association and Gun Owners of America.
Paul Carmouche’s web page wasn’t nearly as convincing. In fact, the only thing the web page said was, “100% pro gun.” An entire web page with only 3 words about the Second Amendment? That’s interesting. I’ll have to look around a bit more to find out where Mr. Carmouche stands on the issue.

The Democrats picked up quite a few seats in the House of Representatives this past election. In fact, they gained 20 seats this year, giving them 255 seats while the Republicans hold only 175. They also gained six seats in the U.S. Senate, giving them 57 seats total – only three seats away from a filibuster-proof supermajority. And we all know what happened in the race for President.
Regardless of whether you like these numbers or not, we’ve got to have a balance of power up there in Washington or things will run-a-muck. We can all agree that absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi now have an incredible amount of power, and I’ve heard some pretty scary things about how they plan to use it. Let’s start with the Fairness Doctrine. This legislation would allow the government to tell us how much of a certain political viewpoint can be expressed in the media. Personally, I don’t think we should sacrifice free speech for “fairness.” Then there is card check. This initiative would take away the right of a employee to vote in private on whether or not they want to join a union. Who knows the kinds of problems this could bring.
Whether or not you’re fired up about this election, a vote for Paul Carmouche is a vote for this agenda.

The far-left group, the Daily Kos, posted a blog today stating that Paul Carmouche was leading John Fleming by 10 points in his race for the House of Representatives. According to the Daily Kos, “those are numbers we can believe in.”
Well, it turns out they actually aren’t.
The Daily Kos fails to mention that this poll was actually conducted by the Carmouche campaign! Come on folks, if you were running for Congress, wouldn’t you try to paint the best possible picture for your campaign?
Don’t let erroneous numbers sway your vote. Take a look at where these candidates stand on important issues and go vote December 6th.
